Eco-friendly surfing equipment

The sport of surfing grows and so does its environmental impact. Today the surfing equipment can have a negative ecological footprint because it is made of non-biodegradable materials (synthetic resin surfboards, neoprene wetsuits, petroleum-based surf wax, etc.)

Some surf equipment manufacturers are focusing on an ecological vision of the sport and offer green alternatives.

The Eco surfboard

You now can find on the market high quality surfboards entirely produced from sustainable raw materials and that ensure performance.

For example, they produce wooden boards or surfboards made with bamboo-based resin. They are less wasteful and less toxic than typical polyurethane boards. They apparently even last longer !

The Eco wetsuit

The ones that do not contain PVC are less toxic than the ones with it.

Eco Wax and Eco sunscreen

Some companies offer surf wax that are quality petroleum-free which are made from natural ingredients.

An equipment that we don't always think about is the environmental impact of the sunscreen. In fact, most of them contain toxic chemicals such as oxybenzone that present a danger to the ocean and the sea life. It also exists sunscreens free of these poisonous ingredients that you can buy.

By the way, you can recycle your surfboards and wetsuits !

Thus, surfers that feel compromised by having to use equipment that is ecologically damaging the Earth will have the opportunity to choose to show respect to the environment they interact with.

You now can enjoy your passion while being gentle to the Planet! What else do you want?

Have a look at these companies and people that try to 'save' the Planet or at least that try to help the surfboard industry to become more sustainable!
